Building the Ultimate BBQ Cookshack…

Mother Nature is an Evil Mistress!!!

How else do you explain the teasing, tempting, taste of Spring she gave us on Friday…..Warm breezes, the sound of water running in the down spouts from the roof, the subtle scent of warming earth…and could this possibly mean I might be able to start my cookshack building???????   This was Friday night…Feb18th

So could it be….could it actually be the starting of the time to build???????

NOT!

And welcome to Feb 19th-Saturday morning

By the way for size reference…the shed in front of the new cookshack slab is 10′x10′…so this is not going to be some whimpy assed cookshed, it’ll be The Ultimate Cookshack!!

So….Want to see what the building is going to look like as a design….it’s a combo of an open area under a roof (to cook under) and a back portion 12×15′ to use as a classroom/prep space May until Oct every year….1 smoking class per month….

Can’t wait to uncover the poured concrete and get building…but sounds like southern Ontario will get a good dose of snow Tues into Wed this week…..uuuggggg!

Wide barn doors on the front of the building….windows on 3 sides and a killer sound system to pass the hours prepping and cooking!!!!!  WooHoo!!!

Might just become my new doghouse…woof!

When will the Winter end!!!!!….I’m counting down the days…like a slow dripping water fawcett…you know…one slow agonizing drip at a time

drip…………..drip…………….drip……the snow piles up…the evidence of my poured concrete pad drifting away, buried in the white misery….please……bring on the heat…..I know…..what we need is a scan of what is to be built….ok…hang in a day or two and I’ll pop it up……see….now you’re hooked….so join me….

Oh this will be fun!!!!

So here’s the plan…

The Ultimate Backyard BBQ Cookshack…

…a concrete pad 15×22′, on top will be a split structure…one is a roof 15x 10′ to cook under and the second area a classroom/shed area 12×15′…the shed will have a 12′ tall front wall and a back wall of 8′ in height. Barn doors on the front wall will open to a nice 6′ wide opening and there will be a window on each of the side walls and back wall to let in lots of light.

Steel roof (red) and to finish off the exterior it’ll be done board and batten style in a soft grey tone colour…concrete pad will be sealed to avoid marking it when the sauce hits the floor…lol….

so…is it all just talk….you know…blah, blah, blah….or do you have a pic to prove what you are doing you ask!…Well look no further…the proof is in the pics….

1st up….the forming is done, and 14 tons of stone is compacted and ready for the concrete to be poured…

Next up…concrete has been poured and the finishing work on the surfacing is underway…smooth for the classroom area and a nice “sidewalk broom finish” for the area under the 10×15′ roof…

And now…..All buttoned and covered for winter, protected from the frost and whatever Mother Nature wants to toss at it….lol….

While the winter snows howl and beat on the covered concrete pad I dream of building the classroom/shed and covered roof area. Plans are designed and approved with the city and now I can sit back and begin to see the new interior in my mind and can start perusing the DIY stores for just the right fixtures for the Art of The Q!
